Happy Birthday Jacob!

Don't have much time, but I just had to post a Happy 1st Birthday to my last baby!

The time has flown by way too quickly and this mama's heart is aching a little to let go. It'll be the first of many more times to come I am sure.

I love you my little man!

PushUp Update

I'm still doing the Hundred Pushup Challenge. Unfortunately I seem to have hit a plateau. I've been doing Week 4 Day 1 for at least 6 days now - it's just so brutally difficult I haven't been able to move past it. I guess I'll just have to keep at it. It's 5 sets of pushups (yes, from the toes!) - 21, 25, 21, 21, 32. Yep, brutal.

I've also just started doing the Two Hundred Sit Ups Challenge this past week. My abs are actually pretty strong from doing the pushup challenge - doing them normally I could do 72 which meant I could start on Week 5 of training. That seemed too easy, so I tried them on my Bender Ball instead. Can you say brutal?! So, yeah, definitely started with Week 1 training (still Level 3 though) using the Bender Ball - it is a challenge that's for sure!!

Unfortunately, the scale has actually inched up by 1 or 2 pounds. However, I know that muscle weighs more than fat, so that is likely the culprit.

Either way, hopefully I don't pack on too much over our cruise!

Menu Monday

Monday - chicken breast in cream of mushroom sauce over noodles, corn & coleslaw
Tuesday - perogies, sausage and corn
Wednesday - either pizza or sandwiches (something quick as I'm getting a pedicure for our trip while Nathan feeds the kids supper before taking them to the city for clubs/shopping)
Thursday - lasagna, breadsticks, salad
Friday (Jacob's 1st birthday!!!) - chicken fingers and french fries (one of his favourites:)
Saturday - airport or airplane food
Sunday - cruise ship food!!

Can you say c..c..c..cold?!

Tomorrow's supposed to start off at a balmy -49C (-56F).

I'm guessing school will be closed for the 3rd day in a row.

Oh I can't wait for next week Saturday - Caribbean here we come!!!!

Neener neener neener.

OK I admit that was immature.

Update: OK, it only ended up at -44 so school was not cancelled after all. -45 is the cutoff. Missed it by that much!

Bible Reading Update and Blog recommendations

OK, I've changed my reading plan for reading through the Bible in one year. Originally I thought the big variety every day would be great - but I'm actually having a hard time switching gears 4 times in one reading session like that. So for now I've switched to Old Testament and New Testament combo - from Our Daily Bread.

The other one I'm debating switching over to follows a different format. Mondays you read from The Law, Tuesdays from History, Wednesdays from Psalms, Thursdays are Poetry, Fridays are Prophecy, Saturdays are Gospel and Sundays are Epistles. This format gives variety throughout the week, but still enables you to focus on one thing at a time.

It's amazing how many different versions you can do - you can read through the Bible in order of how the books were written, and you can read them in the order they actually occurred throughout history - both of which would be excellent ideas as well!

So, I happened about a few different blogs that I want to recommend.

Bring the Rain is probably the most heart wrenching yet powerfully moving blog I have ever read. Angie Smith (wife to Todd Smith from the Christian music group "Selah") has an amazing way with the English language. I guarantee you will not leave that blog unchanged - but definitely have Kleenex nearby, you will need it. You need to start at the beginning - January 2008.

Smiles and Trials is another excellent choice - this amazing mom of 11 children (both biological and adopted) is very candid about their everyday lives - the highs and the lows.

My Charming Kids is another very interesting and oftentimes humourous read. Big Mac, MckNugget, Small Fry and MckMuffin are her kids - need I say more?

And since I've already wasted far too much time online today (justified by feeling under the weather of course), that's all for now!

Monday's Missing Menu

OK, we've all been a little under the weather with colds this week - that's my excuse and I'm stickin' to it!

Monday - spaghetti with delicious homemade focaccia bread - Canada won the World Junior Hockey Championship for the 5th straight year - woohoo!
Tuesday - sandwhiches
Wednesday - sandwhiches (with everyone under the weather - bland food is the way to go :)
Thursday - something chicken - I think mushroom gravy maybe
Friday - baked ham - I think I've had that thing in my freezer since the last Ice Age - hopefully it'll still taste ok :)
Saturday - sweet n sour sausage with rice

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everybody!

I don't normally make New Year's resolutions, but this one I've been wanting to do for a long time and I think if I make it public it will make me more accountable.

I want to read through the Bible in one year.

I have never actually done this. As a matter of fact, I cannot say with any certainty that I have ever read through the entire Bible. Rather embarrassing to admit actually. So, I am committing to doing this.

There are several different read-through-the-Bible-in-a-year programs out there and I have decided to do this one. I like it because you read something from the Old Testament, New Testament, Psalms and Proverbs every day! They also have a neat feature where you can enter your own start date - which means there's no reason to wait till 2010!

I have a few other goals as well - like finishing off that baby weight loss, getting more organized (Flylady is helping with that), being on the computer less and improving in my role as a mother to my wonderful four children and as a wife to my amazing husband.

I want to be more pro-active and less re-active in my parenting.

I want to be even more intentional about teaching them what a relationship with Jesus is all about.

I want to allow myself to be the fun parent sometimes too - I need to realize that playing with my kids counts as getting stuff done!

So, what are your New Year's resolutions?
